Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is just around the corner....more food more ang pows and more meeting up with family members. In the past, my relatives used to ask me whether I have already completed my NS. Now is a different story, its more like do you have a steady girlfriend and when is marriage on the cards. Ahh, really wish I can avoid all these questions cos yeah Im still unattached. The only thing Im attached to is my guitar.

New Year is a time on feasting on goodies and going to the annual Reunion Dinner. For me, its about having that buffett lunch with my mum cos we dont particularly like having the buffett dinner. Then its back home eating what we call, "nian gao" or in the Foochow dialect, "Tong Gui".

On the First Day, its usually a sumptious lunch at my Grandma's and feasting on goodies for the rest of the day.

By the third day, things would have quietened down a little and probably I'll be back to work. Anyway, to all my students, have a great Chinese New Year! Its good to spend it with family members!

Yup u guessed it....I'm back in White Sands Primary on the 12th.....first session at 7.30am...who the hell teaches guitar at such an early time slot.....only me lor....haha...new batch of students...the Pri 5 have gone on to Pri 6...hope they will be as fun as last year's batch....to the previous bunch I had last year....I really MISS U GUYS....

Really struggling with my hectic schedule now......really waiting to start school teaching again, cos i really enjoyed my time last year....

I really should try and slow down on my private classes...but some of them are really my pride and joy.....ahh what the heck...just work lah and stop complaining.....some people are having trouble finding jobs and here I am complaining of too many classes.....what the hell am i complaining about....this is the path i chose and this is the path I will go on with....

Its the Christmas week and im feeling very nua....lazy lor, dont want to go to class....skool starting soon liaoz....received some really nice presents and cards tis year....Thanks to all who sent and gave me....can't wait to go back to white sands primary again.....new batch of students and new challenges, hope my old students will come and visit me....miss them....ahh the new year is coming....

Finally bought a sweater

Okayz i cant seem to remind myself to bring an umbrella everytime i go out, so i bought myself a sweater. It is a Fender sweater, black, witha hood. Went to Peninsula today and sent the pedals for repair, how long have i been procrastinating abt it? Well I finally got it done today! Got some guitar hooks as well so that i can hang up my guitars. and got the syllabus for terrence. Going to his place later for lesson, and after that its Kampong Kembangan. So yeah its an easy day for me, Im winding down for xmas. Haha, meeting Weishi and Eng Sheng for dinner this Friday. Boy, Havent seen them in ages. Haha at least my students still remember me. Well, hope this weekend will be good and fun, cant wait for the break man.

Went to the Guitar Competition Heats this morning...the standard was super high lor....i looked at myself and i feel pathetic....my standard can't be as high or even close to the competitors. This gives me a target to meet for the next two years, practice and practice lor, wish i can join the competition in two years time. I need to have a goal, a target to set.....a dream to achieve.

Had to rush all the way down to Tampines North tis morning cos there was an open house...spent 15 min there and then took a cab to Kembangan.....2 CCs in the space of an hour....Im not Superman lah.....Then had two private classes at Meyer Road.....Rosie made my day today.....What a good lesson! Yicha Music called me up at like 12.30am last nite to find out whether I was available to teach at their music school. Of cos I said yes, so my first student there is next Sunday, after Kembangan. Getting back into music schools has its ups and downs. The good part is that u are stationed at the same place for like quite a few hours and just teach. The bad part is that if the student doesnt turn up, u have to make up for it another day. Well, the more assignments, the better.

This coming week is a super packed week. Cmon Im not even taking Hari Raya off lor. But hey, teaching comes first and I will waste my time even if its an off day, I had one tis week, so another one will do me no good.

Teaching Brenda, Audrey and Hugo tmr, so its easy classes. Better buy some local food for Brenda, I guess she wants to taste some local food. Should i catch a movie in between classes tmr. Better not go to town. Can't stand crowds nowadays, gives me a headache! Might as well just go to starbucks and get coffee and finish reading the Khaled Hosseini book. Turning out to be very interesting and im getting hooked. Ahh enough for today, seeya guys around.

Feeling sick and numb today.....Listening to the Linkin Park song last nite, Shadow of the Day....just such a nice song......woke up with a cold.....last nite was kinda cold....numb as in not feeling anything and just wishing that life can be simpler...less noise, more peace and hopefully more motivation....My family sometimes can be quite noisy, justa family of thinkers....why cant everyone just live in peace and just be happy, always griping about how unlucky and down they are, feeling the world is coming to an end....it made me into who i am, exceptionally pessimistic.

If the family situation isnt good, then it makes my day harder to pass by...I just have to handle classes in a more positive manner....i dont want to be pessimistic anymore, looking down at myself all the time, looking back at all the missed chances and regretting, my life needs a direction and maybe a little more stability.

The motivation I felt a few days ago is gone. I want more time to do the things i want and not to worry about money and earning money and trying to be a good person.

I just feel that life can be better. I dont want to sacrifice anymore. I dont want people to tell me what's rite and what's wrong and that Im still lousy and irresponsible and havent changed for the better....I want to feel rite about myself and that Im slwly making a mark in life.....I want people to understand that tis is who I am....i am changing for the better....

Alot of who i am is how i think of myself.....most of the time i look happy, but im just worried inside.....and regretting what has passed and. I made a lot of mistakes in life and I wasted a lot of time. I look down at myself all the time....that I am going to spend the rest of my life hating myself and questioning whatever i do....

Had a long nite talking to Reggie last nite....think I slept at like 2.30...It was a good talk....and yes, i told her of my feelings for her last nite, kinda not at the rite time as she was upset about something.... I do think of her when I go about my daily work, but hey I know where my line is, and she is definately going to be only my good friend.... she came into my life suddenly, completely turned things around in like two months, and yes, I'm in love with her....but yeah, things are not going to happen and yeah...sometimes i dont know what to say...

Well, I guess she is fun to be with, nice to talk to and totally understanding....

New Year

2009 is coming up soon. The year is planned already...jammed with classes. New schools await me. Think Im getting white sands and ACS next year....haha back to white sands again....YAY! no sign of my break coming up....haha tts alrite.....Im quite recharged these few days....sleeping well, eating well...cant wait for the year to open....I think tis job suits me fine, no office jobs pls...cant sit in the same position for 8 hrs at a stretch, staring at the computer....

Had good classes yesterday, think I am more confident in front of large groups now, after dealing with schools tis year....less tense, more myself, more weird, more quirky....

Hope the bunch next year at white sands will be as responsive as tis year's. Im just a little worried abt ACS though....full ensemble....SYF...major step for me...but in the right direction...

Hope I can do more private organisations and clubs....it was a good response at Civil Service Club. Need to do more cold calls soon....I need to work harder....not getting any younger....at least my mum is more understanding these few months...hey things are getting better....used to fight with her alot....guessed both of us has mellowed down a lot....relationship a lot better now....i think im less rebellious too....but i still make her worry....i need to grow up....

I was introduced to Lifehouse today, and I cant seem to stop playing it, over and over again, even though its like a Christian band(sorry Im not the Hillsongs singing type). Its good! Solid soothing rock...great vocalist. Thanks R...:). Met Ms Chan on the bus today, boy she looks different....sorry I was not in a good mood today, a little sulky, but hey can we meet up soon....?

Well, its a bright and sunny day, clear skies no rain.....amazing....hate the wet weather...good for swimming, but I dont have the time to do so now. CC classes tonight, major headache cos there are so many students. Reggie is visiting me tonight, so YAY! well...organising a bbq next month...major logistics problem. How do I call everyone(which I think is a hundred over students) and how to get supplies(like that many supplies to the venue?) How many pits should I book? Maybe I should organise something smaller first like a badminton game and see the response. Anyways, I miss all my students can't wait to see them again.....Its a good day....heehee.

Something really bad happened yesterday and it made me miss my morning class....to my students in my Kembangan class, Im really really sorry for not coming yesterday....really unexpected. Hi, for all you students out there who wish to noe more about me, here goes. I was born on 17th february 1982, star sign aquarius, which means Im totally emotional, unpredictable and really random. I studied in opera estate pri school before moving on to Temasek Secondary. For those of you who are thinking of going to this secondary school, i would say it is an okay choice but there are other better schools. I have two dogs at home(namely Pepsi and Happy), as well as a turtle(though I havent named the turtle). I live with my dearest mummy in Bedok(so next time if you are in the area, try looking for me). My passion in life is guitar as you guys would have known and sports(namely tennis and swimming). I think God has been kind to me thru the years, but yes, I have made some really stupid mistakes in the past and that is why I am always nagging you students to study hard...

At this point of time, yes and you guys guessed it, I am still single. Yes, I do have my target on someone but unfortunately, shes taken, so the case is closed. I am what you call a guy who thinks too much, too much reading in between the lines, which is not good for a guy cos guys are supposed to be straightforward. I may seem very happy and crazy to you guys but deep inside, I worry about alot of things...I think it is just a outer image that i keep, to be happy in front of students so that they will be happy too....

Right now, I am just keeping my fingers crossed that Friday's performance will be a successful one. You guys have been my pride and joy for the last six months and after Friday, I will have to say goodbye to you all. So whatever happens in the future, I will always remember the times we shared in school and I wish you all the best in secondary school. Hope we will meet again. Cheers :) Derek Goh

This thought just came to me while i was sitting on the bus. Everything happens for a reason. You come into this world for a reason. You die for a reason, you live for a reason. You study for a reason, you work for a reason. So this girl came into my life for a reason. Its been a nice few days and I really wish her the best in everything. She is nice, sweet, someone whom i can talk to. And I noe I can really depend on her when Im down. So I wish her and her special someone all my sincere blessings. Life goes on and things have to be done. My work with my students give me the motivation to wake up every morning. Im happy with my students and things will just stay this way for a while. Then after that, Im off to bedok CC for the guys there.....Things are looking good today...just hope the weather doesnt dampen my spirits. Mathieu will be the last tonight. Slept quite early last nite cos I was sick. The Dream came back again. Havent had it for over six months. Its quite weird cos its as if I was back in time again. And She appeared again. Havent really forgotten abt her all these years and frankly, I havent met her since we parted. That was a good 10 years ago. wonder how is she now? She must be doing well cos she did well in school. Is this girl someone whom I'll never forget for the rest of my life? She only appears when Im sleeping, I dont think of her during my daily activities. Well, hope i get to meet her again someday. Woke up super late Today...class is at 10.30, woke up like 10.00. Had to take a cab down. Wasted another 8 bucks. Bryan is doing really well now. 8 yrs old and he is playing quite well.
Thinking of bleaching my hair again. My mum was like dyeing her hair last nite and i was like, " Do u have any extra bleach around in the house....?" Going to get that bottle of bleach from Watson's later. Meeting Pearlyn for lunch. Havent met her for over four months. Hope its a good lunch, cos im starving! Going to YMCA after that and then to Kolam Ayer CC. Im taking a break tmr, so have to inform the students that Im not going. Im tired...overweight and in need of exercise....all the junk food is doing me in...better go to Uncle Richard's place tmr...havent met him for over three months. well...there goes the weekend....

Thank God Ms Reg msged me this morning to wake me up, really nice girl. Then went to collect guitars at some godforsaken hour. BTW, havent talked to Ms Chan for a long long time. We go way back, back when i was a lifeguard. I wonder how is she now. wish I can meet up with her for dinner soon. Pepsi is going to the vet tonight. hope the vet wldnt do anything. i wish she wld pass away at home, not at the vet's. 15 years I had her. Part of the family. My mum is really going to miss her when she's gone.
Pepsi used to console me whenever I was sad, jumping into my lap when I was crying, looking at me and wondering what was wrong, and then licking my tears away....Its really been a long and fruitful journey with her these 15 years.....

Its a day of rest for me. Had a gd time at Bedok CC last nite. Now parking at internet cafe cos as u guys noe, i dont have a computer at home. Havent had a com for the last seven years. Was hooked onto com before, playing games till late into the nite. To think I was a com student before. That was like a gd ten yrs ago. Temasek Poly student, then dropped out. Come to think of it, I was quite stupid last time, didnt really concentrate in my studies. Looking back, I know I could have done things in a more constructive way. Spend less time with friends, less time going out and more time in my studies. Then didnt have to drop out. Miss those days of studying, no need to worry abt money, or earning money tt is. Well, the past is the past, no use regretting. Im happy with my life now, teaching guitar. meeting and interacting with students. They are the pride and joy in my life now. Talk again later.

Well its a public holiday tmr and its the first break Im having in over two mths. Havent planned what Im actually going to do, probably going to sleeep late tonite and wake up like at 1 tmr. Then half the day is wasted. Donoe whether Colin is free for tennis tmr. I still can't run for heaven's sake and i noe i need lots of exercise. Just been eating and sleeping for the last two months. The tummy is really showing. Well, hope it doesnt rain tmr.

Funny Habits.

I just started noticing myself recently....I do have very weird habits which i really am not aware of...Example one: When I take an escalator, i always step onto it with my right foot first. And i always step on the right hand side first and then move to the left to let people pass....And for the studentsin my skool class, u will always notice that i shake my legs.....That is really something very automatic. On the train, when i sit down, i will periodically check my fingernails like a woman. Im also very particular abt numbers. I will never choose anything that starts with a 2 or 4, but give me 7, 8 or 17, I'll be very pleased. Well anyways, I have three classes today, easy ones, not much travelling, so no cabbing....I need to save money, cos Ive been spending too much. Bye for now.

What time did i wake up today....? 1pm...Slept for 12 hrs....Finally went to YMCA to teach today. The guys were great! Lots of potential and the best part is willing to sing. Asian Beat is coming up. And they are writing their own songs! I need to make a trip down to esplanade library to get scores. Also finally did some drumming today. Why is it my hands feel sooo dead today. Like im hitting on wood. I think i need a break frm teaching, its getting more and more numb. The only friends i have are like my students. Pepsi is getting weaker by the day. Cant walk now. Only barking and barking. She is deteriorating fast. Hope she can survive the new year. Above is a pic of Tiny, my student's dog......sooooo cute.

Whata day today.... Must have travelled everywhere in Singapore..... Took cab like four times today....and very wet.... was at wsps tis afternoon and had two hrs of lessons with the kids.....finally the dream of an ensemble is coming true....these kids are smart....very smart....wish they had better guitars.....Then met up with Mr Chu to get electric guitar.....shld have seen the look on his face when he finally bought it.....French girl was next.....another easy going kid....talented but not concentrating....wish she cld try harder.... the rain is bugging me.....just wet take cab and wet again....Meeting up with Uncle Richard tmr for lunch....he said hes going to pass the turntable and speakers to me...YAY! I need to play those jazz records..! And I need another acoustic guitar!

It has been close to a year since ive created this blog. The year has been filled with surprises. Started working full time again in the beginning of the year. Then quit my job and back to teaching guitar. The students at the skools are fun to be with. makes me feel younger. Looking forward to an excellent 2009 with more skools to go to. I really shld take up classical again. Well, three classes today and I'm feeling relaxed. Just the weather-raining. How I wish the sun wld be out and I miss swimming and tennis. Ciao!

Stupid Weather

Argggh! Got caught in the rain again yesterday while travelling from class to class.....The weather in Singapore during the December period is really so very wet.....and I have to carry the guitar with me all the time......Woke up with a runny nose today and the thought of cancelling classes is in my head.....But I guess I feel so much better after completing my classes.

Yesterday's community centre class was fun.....Tis batch is really taking it very well, with all that I taught yesterday nite......

Should try and cook when I get back home later....I just realised that cooking is really very therapeutic.....To create something which can be enjoyed by the whole family is quite satisfying...got the simple dishes rite already......now must spend more time on the technically more demading ones....

My very First Posting

To everyone out there, my name is Jules and this is my very first posting. I'm in my mid twenties and I'm living in sunny Singapore(or very wet these few days for that matter). First let me introduce myself, I'm working as a guitar teacher(been doing tis for four years now).....and its mostly the pop and classical guitar genre.

Well, hopefully I can pour out my feelings abt things in tis blog and see what comes out of tis.
